The Centerville City Schools Transportation Department operates more than 120 buses and over 600 individual bus routes every day.
The team is made up of two supervisors, four secretaries, four bus mechanics and about 130 bus drivers and aides.
When students register and are added to our database, it may take 48-72 hours before transportation information is available. This time is required to route your student(s) and notify the necessary personnel. Your child's bus route information is available through the Home Access Center (HAC).

Bus Riding Policies
Each day, Centerville City Schools transport more than 8,000 students to both public and non-public schools, and our school buses will travel more than 1.6 million miles throughout the school year. Safety remains our top priority, and Ohio Revised Code 3313.014 gives schools broad discretionary authority to set and enforce safety rules and precautions.
In order for us to be successful, we need you and your child to read and understand our policies. Please know that the school bus and driver are both an extension of the school and its teachers and principal. We expect the same conduct and courtesies on the bus that are practiced in school.
The basic responsibilities for your child riding the bus are:
- For reasons of safety, your child must be at their stop at least 5 MINUTES early. Sitting in the car or waiting inside the house until the bus arrives is not safe. Students must be at their designated place of safety PRIOR to the bus arriving.
- Do not run to the bus; this is dangerous!
- Again, 5 minutes early! Don't make the bus and the students on board wait for you; this keeps us from tying up traffic and helps us stay on schedule.
- Enter and leave the bus in an orderly fashion, using the handrail to prevent slips and falls.
- Ride your assigned bus. If there are any changes or emergencies, please select the correct form from the Transportation Forms tab on this page and fill it out completely and legibly. You may then return the change to your student's school of attendance in a timely manner.
- Listen to the instructions of your driver. Besides getting to know you, their job is to get you to and from school on time and safely.
- For reasons of safety, your child must sit down and stay seated while the bus is moving. Please talk to your child regarding this safety issue.
- ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF CHILDREN IN PRESCHOOL THROUGH FIRST GRADE: When we bring your child home, you must be at the stop! We care about your children, and we will not let them off the bus if you are not there. If you are not present at the stop, we will return your child to their school and you will need to pick them up.
The following actions are not permitted on the bus for reasons of safety:
- Putting arms, head or legs out of the window.
- No teasing, bullying, put downs or foul language.
- Throwing anything from the bus.
- Destruction of seats, etc.
- Eating, drinking, smoking or using any form of tobacco.
- Striking, pushing or otherwise abusing another student.
- Yelling or any disruptive actions.
- No weapons, firearms or anything that resembles one.
- No headsets, iPods or cell phones, especially when getting on or off the bus! You risk not seeing your driver's instructions to unload or cross you safely.
For reasons of safety, the following items are not permitted on the bus:
- Skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, glass, balloons or balls of any kind.
- No hockey sticks, baseball bats, golf clubs or lacrosse sticks that are not in a sport bag.
- No animals or small creatures such as insects, snakes or dangerous materials.
- No school projects that cannot be held on a student's lap.
You may bring the following:
- Lap material or carry-on items that do not have sharp edges.
- Musical instruments if there is room and your child can carry it on and off.
- And of course your smiling face! :)

Where do I find my child's bus route information?
Your child's transportation information is available through the Home Access Center (HAC). It can be accessed beginning one week prior to the start of school. Once you have logged into HAC, you will see your child’s bus route by clicking on the Registration icon at the top of the page. Transportation information will be displayed in the middle of the screen.
If your family is new to Centerville Schools or has never set up a HAC account, you will need to set up an account after Aug. 1. Navigate to the Home Access Center, then scroll down toward the bottom of the page where you will see a link labeled "Click Here to Register for HAC." In order for this process to work, you must have a valid email address on record. You also will need to confirm the first/last name, city and zip code for the parent/guardian. These values must match what was submitted at the time of enrollment.

What transportation forms do I need to complete for my child?
Grades PreK-1: All students must have a Transportation Form on file with their school, whether they are riding a school bus or using alternate transportation. Click here to download the Transportation Form.
Grades 2-8: All students will automatically be routed to and from their home address, unless your child did not ride the bus or had a Transportation Form on file from the previous school year. If your child is opting out of bus services or will be served by a childcare provider at an address other than your home during the 2022-23 school year, you must complete a NEW Transportation Form and return it to your child’s school. If your child had alternate transportation last school year, and will now be riding the bus to and/or from school, please contact the Transportation Department at 937-885-7776 to make sure your routing information is correct. Grades 9-12: A transportation survey for high school students is part of the Returning Student Information Form that you complete through the Home Access Center. If you need to change your student's transportation information during the school year, please contact the Transportation Department.
What can my children bring on the bus with them?
Why does my child have to be at his/her stop five minutes early?
When we approach the stop, your child's driver is counting the number of children who might be at that stop. He or she will make sure the same number of children get on the bus to ensure no one has slipped, fallen or dropped something into what we call the "danger zone" where they cannot be seen.
This is especially important in the winter months. It's dark out and there may be snow or ice that the children could slip on.
If my child is sick or not riding in the AM do I need to call transportation?
No, you do not have to call us! We ask our drivers to stop at each address as this will keep them on schedule for the next stop.
If your child rides a Special Needs bus, please call the Transportation office only if you are running late to the bus stop. We will do our best to accommodate the late arrival.
How do your drivers know where to pick up our children?
We use a state-of-the-art routing software. Each driver carries on their bus two, and maybe three, different routes printed on paper. These are for our AM, midday and PM routes. They include turn for turn and stop for stop information for the driver.
Your child's regular driver soon commits this and your child's name and stop to memory.
When we use a sub, they simply refer to the route sheet and follow it. However, they are nowhere near as familiar with addresses, etc. as your regular driver and will probably run behind schedule.
How safe is the school bus to ride?
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, students are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a bus instead of traveling by car. That’s because school buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road; they’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries; and in every state, stop-arm laws protect children from other motorists.
Do I need to call transportation if my child is riding a different bus?
No, please complete the Temporary Transportation Change Form. Fill it out completely and legibly, then send the form to your child's school. Please, no notes on any type of scrap paper.
Can I just give a note to the bus driver?
The best thing to do is to complete the Temporary Transportation Change Form. Many children forget to present the note until they are leaving school. As you can imagine, with thousands of bus riders, this creates very confusing few moments, especially for younger children and their teachers.
What should I do if I move or change my contact info?
What if I see a Centerville bus operating unsafely?
We believe we have one of the most thoughtful and professional group of drivers a school district could have; however, if you feel you witnessed an unsafe act, please get the bus number and give us a call with the details.
Also, feel free to call us with any compliments you have, and we will pass them along to the driver!
Why do you use substitute drivers?
Just as any other profession, we have drivers who get sick, or they have a sick child at home, a dental appointment, etc. With that in mind, we will use a sub to run your child's route. These are very professional people; however, they have no way of knowing everything your regular driver does. We will be there, and we will get your children picked up and dropped off safely, but we will probably run a little behind schedule.
What does a school delay mean to my child and me?
If we have a scheduled two-hour delay or the superintendent determines the weather is bad enough for a delay, morning pick-up time for bus riders will be two hours later than the normal schedule.
Delayed start times for schools will be:
- Full Day Kindergarten (Special Needs Students) - 10:10 a.m.
- Morning Preschool & Kindergarten - 10:10-11:50 a.m.*
- Afternoon Preschool & Kindergarten - 12:55-2:35 p.m.**
- 1st Graders - 10:10 a.m.
- Centerville Elementary Schools (grades 2-5) - 10 a.m.
- Centerville Middle Schools (grades 6-8) - 10:50 a.m.
- Centerville High School - 9:50 a.m.
- School of Possibilities - 10:15 a.m. / 1:45 p.m.
* Dismissal time will be 11:50 for AM Preschool and Kindergarten.
** Start of PM Preschool and Kindergarten will be delayed one hour.
End-of-day dismissal times will not change.
