Artemis Center for Alternatives to Domestic Violence

The Artemis Center for Alternatives to Domestic Violence provides early intervention, supportive services and education for the victims of domestic violence and their children. In partnership with the Volunteer Lawyers Project, the center provides legal services to victims of civil domestic violence and handles matters related to temporary protection orders and related relief. It offers information to victims about civil and criminal matters, as well as court escort services. The center administers programs to assist child witnesses in developing skills and strategies to cope with domestic violence. It also offers individual and family therapy sessions to parents and assists in rebuilding parent and child relationships. In association with YWCA, the center organizes The Family Violence Collaborative program that assists law enforcement, criminal justice, child protection and health care professionals to develop policies to cope with domestic violence.

Provides temporary emergency shelter for approximately 45 homeless men, women and children. Offers case management to assist homeless individuals in obtaining permanent housing, employment, and physical and mental health care. Networks with other agencies designed to provide job training, parenting skills, transportation, physical and mental health care to homeless individuals and empower them for better living. Supplies three nutritious meals per day, clothing and personal care items. Offers a health clinic which includes a weekly doctor visit. Provides a 12-step Transformation Program to assist men and women struggling from drug and alcohol addictions.

The Dayton Catholic Worker Movement operates a house of hospitality for six homeless guests labeled working poor, mentally ill, ex-felon, and addict. We mentor social cooperative business development - helping people to help themselves. A cooperative is defined as an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.

The mission of the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center (MVFHC) is to eliminate housing discrimination and ensure equal housing opportunity for all people in our region, the State of Ohio, and nationally. Specifically, the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center seeks to eliminate housing discrimination against all persons because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status, or any other characteristic protected under state or local laws. In furthering this goal, MVFHC engages in activities designed to encourage fair housing practices through educational efforts; assists person who believe they have been victims of housing discrimination; identifies barriers to fair housing in order to help counteract and eliminate discriminatory housing practices; works with elected and government representatives to protect and improve fair housing laws; and takes all appropriate and necessary action to ensure that fair housing laws are properly and fairly enforced throughout our region, the State of Ohio, and nationally.

St. Vincent de Paul operates two 24-hour emergency homeless shelters. The St. Vincent de Paul Gateway Shelter for Women and Families serves single women and families with children. The St. Vincent de Paul Gettysburg Gateway serves single men. Both shelters provide three meals daily, clothing, personal care items, mail and message services, and access to case management to assist them in exiting the shelter into appropriate permanent housing.

Established locally in 1896, Volunteers of America has supported and empowered community groups, including low-income seniors, veterans, homeless individuals and families, men and women returning home after incarceration, and those recovering from addictions. Agency administrative offices are located in Columbus and Indianapolis with program offices there and in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Mansfield, Sandusky, and Toledo, Ohio, as well as Columbus, Evansville, Ft. Wayne, Gary, Marion, Terre Haute, and Winchester, Indiana.

The YWCA Dayton operates an emergency shelter and crisis support services for women and children fleeing domestic violence; crisis and counseling services for survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking; affordable housing and life skills training for single women transitioning to independent living from homelessness or abuse; housing assistance for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and families who are experiencing sudden homelessness; and Girls LEAD!, an in-school, after-school, and summer camp empowerment and education program for girls 11-18.

Feeding Friends is a choice pantry serving about 1,000 families each year. Food, pet food and household supplies are obtained via donations from the three churches that participate (Harmony Creek, Fairhaven Church and St. Charles Catholic Church), the public, local organizations, and local retailers (such as Costco and Pretzel Factory). Clients are from zip codes 45419, 45420, 45429, 45440, 45458 and 45459. They may visit the pantry once each calendar month. The pantry is open Thursdays 5:30-7pm. Clients must bring photo ID and a piece of current mail as proof of residence.

FISH Southeast Food Pantry is Southminster’s oldest local mission project. Begun in 1979, they partner with the Dayton FoodBank to provide emergency food those in need. The Epiphany Pantry works in partnership with social agencies, churches and schools in the Miami Valley. We are sorry for the difficulties you are experiencing. Because we cannot work directly with the families, you must first contact your pastor, social worker, or guidance counselor, who will in turn contact Epiphany directly.
