Message for Parents of Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5:
As we've worked through the unique challenges of this school year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, questions regarding state testing requirements have been raised. These tests are required by federal and state law. These assessments provide information to parents, educators, and the public about student performance as well as to help target resources and supports. Data from state tests, can provide insight into state-wide trends and phenomena that can help inform state policymaking and action.
Fortunately, there has been some flexibility granted in relation to Ohio's State Tests. Testing windows have been extended, and the retention requirement of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee has been waived for our third graders. This year, no third grade students will be retained based on their performance on the Ohio's State Test in English Language Arts.
Over the next few weeks, elementary students throughout the State of Ohio in grades 3, 4, & 5 will take Ohio's State Tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (5th grade only). State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio's Learning Standards.
The schedule for Normandy Elementary is as follows:
For our third, fourth, and fifth grade families who are participating remotely, information has been shared via email.
