News for October 16th, 2020 Dear PVS Families, Our soft openings have been awesome!! THANKS to each of you for having your children ready to start with us each day. They came in with their name tags and masks on. They made it to their classroom easily. They had their snacks and water bottles with them. Way to go parents, you've helped to make this week a success!!! Our staff is so happy to have children back in the building again, any sense of normalcy feels good right now. The teachers along with your children are doing a great job of navigating the day with all of our safety precautions in place. Having half of the children each day has really helped us work through our routines with more ease. Thank you for making adjustments to your schedule to give us this time together before our second quarter start on Monday, October 19th.
Remote Classrooms: Our remote teachers are also preparing to start with a new group of students on Monday, October 19th. Parents should expect to receive email communication from their remote teachers this week asking them to join their classroom. The daily schedule will be shared, along with the integrated arts schedule. We also plan to hold weekly materials pick up for our remote learners EVERY Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Your teacher will let you know if you have materials to pick up or drop off each week. Please know that even though your child is a remote learner, they are still a PVS student and we are hear to support as we normally would. Please ask if you need any assistance as you start the second quarter.
Building a Sense of Community: We will work to create community and build a sense of belonging in our classrooms and at PVS over the next few weeks to help get each child settled into their new schedule whether that is in-person or remote. We always take individual photos of children that we use in the classroom, on lockers, and in memory books. This year, with your permission we will continue this tradition, teachers will be in touch about this process. We will continue to build relationships and classroom community over the second quarter.
Our School Day: Doors open at 8 a.m. for AM session and 11:50 a.m. for PM session AM Preschool: 8:10-10:50 a.m. PM Preschool: 11:55 a.m.-2:35 p.m. AM Kindergarten: 8:10-10:50 a.m. PM Kindergarten: 11:55 a.m.-2:35 p.m. Grade 1: 8:10 a.m.-2:35 p.m.
Transportation to and from school: Centerville City Schools will provide transportation to and from school each day. If you DO NOT plan to utilize our transportations services, we should have an alternate transportation form on file. If your transportation plans change throughout the year a new form will be needed. If you need a hard copy of this form, please stop by our office for assistance. You can drop the form off at our office or email the form back to Kim.DelGhingaro@centerville.k12.oh.us. Bus information is available in the Home Access Center that can be found on the Centerville City Schools website.
Morning Arrival: In an effort to stagger our morning arrival and get students into the building without crowding we plan to unload our buses first in the morning . Buses will begin to unload at 7:55 in the morning. To help keep traffic moving, we ask that parents dropping off students plan to arrive at PVS between 8:00 and 8:05. Our car riders will be allowed to begin entering the building at 8:00. We hope to have everyone in the building by 8:10 in the morning. We also have to monitor our process and understand that arrival and dismissal in the first few days will take longer so that we can ensure where each child should go. Morning arrival: 7:55 Buses begin dropping off in our main parking lot. 8:00 Parent drop off begins by the playground. Please enter our lot at 8:00 (not earlier) so we can keep traffic moving. Morning dismissal: 10:30 Parent pick up begins at the gym lobby. 10:40 Daycare and bus dismissal from the front entrance. Afternoon arrival: 11:55 PM KG and Preschool buses begin dropping off in our main parking lot. 11:55 PM KG and Preschool daycare vans begin dropping off by the flagpole. 11:55 PM KG and Preschool parent drop off by the playground. Afternoon dismissal: 2:25 Parent pick up through the gym lobby doors. 2:25 Bus and daycare dismissal.
Supplies: As you prepare your child to return to PVS for the second quarter, we would ask that they come back with the supplies that we sent home at the beginning of the year and the items on our supply list. Each child will keep their supplies in an individual school supply box that they will receive at PVS. Teachers have shared lists of supplies to return. If you DID NOT purchase PVS PTO school supplies, you can find our list of supplies here.
Classroom Setup: Our classrooms will be set up with health and safety protocols that have been outlined by Centerville City Schools communications. Our teachers have been creative in setting up their classrooms differently this year to spread students throughout the room. Teachers are looking forward to teaching in-person while utilizing all of their resources to provide instruction. This will look differently than in the past, but we are confident that we can continue to provide a quality learning community for every child.
Masks: Children will be asked to wear masks at PVS. They will be given masks breaks throughout the day when the teacher can ensure they are at least 6 feet apart.
Materials: Supply and materials will be given to each individual child. Children will not share materials throughout the school day. They will each have a supply box with their individual school supplies that can be used in the classroom and integrated arts.
Snacks: We will continue to have snacks each day at PVS. Children will have a snack spot in the classroom or outside that is 6 feet away from other students.
Cleaning Protocols: Each classroom will have hand sanitizer, extra masks, gloves and disinfectant cleaners. Our staff will work collectively to clean areas multiple times in the day. Staff will disinfect surfaces, touch points, materials, classrooms and restrooms multiple times in between groups of children or when children are at lunch, recess or integrated arts.
Lockers: We do not have enough lockers for each child. Some teachers will have students bring backpacks into the classroom while others may have one locker assigned to each child.
Cafeteria: We will continue to provide breakfast and lunch for our students. Children will be spread out in the cafeteria and clear plexiglass will be on tables to separate them. Recess: The playground will be sectioned off so that classrooms will be playing in a common space during each recess. Masks will be worn during recess.
Hallways: We will use one-way hallways in the areas outside our neighborhoods. Carpet arrows will help children see which way to walk in our hallways.
Carpet visuals: We will place circles on our floors to show children where to stand when they are waiting for the restroom or lining up in the cafeteria.
Teaching routines: Our staff will be teaching students how to navigate their school day with all of our health and safety protocols in place. We teach routines each year, this year may look a little different, but we are ready to use all of our resources to make sure our students can go through their school day distancing from others, wearing their masks, and washing their hands on a regular basis.
School Reopening Information For Parents: Safety Protocols: The health and safety of all staff and students is our number one priority. Our guiding safety priorities are the following: ●Face coverings are required ●Social distancing will be practiced as much as possible ●Everyone should wash hands or use hand sanitizer often ●Supplies and surfaces will be sanitized after each use
