Expectation Changes for 2nd Quarter As we get closer to the 2nd quarter beginning, I wanted to take a minute to explain to families that as we try to navigate this new style of learning, there will be some adjustments and changes. If you plan to stay virtual, students will have an adjusted schedule. Teachers will send out specific schedules to those families, but they will look different than 1st quarter. From a learning perspective, virtual students will also see a slight change in the delivery of the material. Teachers will still find time meet with their virtual students "live" but it may not at the frequency it was in the 1st quarter. This is due to having students in the classroom. Virtual learners will have updated/customized schedules that detail when they will have "live" time with their teacher and when they will be completing work through Google Classroom.
Parent Pickup Arrival/Dismissal - This will still occur in the back of the building like year's past. As students arrive before 7:45am, they will head to the gym to wait in a socially distanced area. They will be dismissed from the gym by a staff member at 7:45am. For dismissal, students will wait in the gym in a socially distanced space and be called out as their ride arrives. We are asking all parents to have signs in their windows of their child's name to help speed up the dismissal process.
Breakfast Did you know? In addition to free lunch, all of our families are eligible to receive a free cold breakfast package from our food service, as our school participated in the statewide free lunch service provided last spring. We are going to provide a "take home" breakfast bag each day for our students who would like one. 2nd grade will offer theirs to students in the morning when they come into the building and grades 3-5 will offer theirs to the students in afternoon prior to the next morning. Students in grades 3-5 would eat them at home. These are totally optional and your student does not need to take one. This service will continue for the rest of 2nd quarter or until the federal funding for the program runs out. A sample of what types of breakfast food will be in the bag is attached.
For students who need to have medicine at school If possible, email or fax the medication form or care plan to Jan Tangeman, School Nurse prior to bringing the medication to school so the nurse can review it. Mrs. Tangeman's email is: jan.tangeman@centerville.k12.oh.us Fax number 937-885-5092 If this is not possible, bring the medication form and medicine to school at the same time. Please call the school prior to bringing the medicine to school so the nurse knows when you are coming. Please ring the buzzer at the door and the nurse will meet you at the front door to get the medicine. She will make sure the medicine and the form match before you leave.
Voyager Voyager will be open in all Elementary buildings for K (pm) - 5th grade students on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. To protect the children and our staff, we will be following all the safety guidelines and protocols established by the District and the State of Ohio. If you would like to have your child(ren) join Voyager and have not registered them you must complete and return ( via email) the enrollment packet located on this Website www.centerville.k12.oh.us listed under "Students & Parents" by Monday, Oct. 12, 2020. There is no Registration Fee. An updated Fee Schedule for the 2nd Quarter is also posted on this website. (No Voyager on Wednesdays) Please Note: For parents who have previously enrolled their children and have received confirmation, we will expect to see them on Monday, Oct. 19. If plans have changed, please let us know as soon as possible so we may open up your spot for others. (Email or text) We may have limited space and staff available this quarter. If you have questions, don't hesitate to call or email. We are all looking forward to having the children back with us in Voyager. See you soon.
Alternate Transportation Forms Bus Routes are available on Home Access Center! Please login and look under the registration tab to find your bus routes. As we get closer to the start of In-Person learning, bus routes may be updated.
Parents - With in person school starting soon, we need your alternate transportation forms here in the Weller office!! We require them for all students who are not riding their regularly scheduled bus to and from their home. Walkers, car riders, students who go to daycare, voyager or any other after school destination that is not their home MUST have one on file with the office.
If you turned one in to the school office this summer, prior to the decision to do remote learning only, we need you to let us know that those after school instructions are still valid.
Please call the school office with any questions you might have as we make sure that this very important paperwork is on file and ready to go before we start in person learning. You can also email your completed form (with signature) to marianne.rapp@centerville.k12.oh.us
District Safety Information and FAQ https://www.centerville.k12.oh.us/back-to-school-2020
The district also sent a separate email from "notify@centerville.k12.oh.us" . This email gave instructions on how to update your selection for In-person or Virtual Learning for 2nd quarter. This selection needs to be made by 4:00pm today. If you need help with this, you can call the school office at 937-885-3273.
Bus Arrival/Dismissal - Busses will still load and unload in the front of the building like in year's past. We will stagger loading and unloading to maximize social distancing. Daycare - Daycare riders will follow similar procedures as in year's past as long as the numbers are similar to what they were in the past. Recess - Students will get a recess. Classes will be out by grade level only and placed in zones around the playground. They will rotate zones daily/weekly to experience all parts of the playground. Lunch - Students will eat lunch in our cafeteria. Lunches will be spaced out so there is no overlap between grade levels. We are using our stage area in the cafeteria as well to help with spacing. There will be plastic/plexi-glass dividers that run long ways across the tables. We will also seat less students at each table to help with spacing. Students will have assigned seats and sit in the same seat each day. This will help with Contact Tracing. Classrooms - Teachers are working hard to make sure their classrooms are as spaced out as possible. We will do our best to keep students 6ft. apart while learning at their desk space. However, there are spaces in some of our classrooms where we cannot achieve 6ft. of distance. As mentioned, we will do the best we can. Restrooms - We will have a limit to the number of students in the restroom at a time. This will be clearly marked on the outside of the restroom. There will be markers on the floor for students to wait until it is their turn to use the restroom. Visitors - We will limit the number of visitors into the building for safety reasons. When possible, we can sign-in and sign-out students for appointments without parents coming into the building. We just ask parents to call the office when they arrive. We will have a staff member walk them out. *Unfortunately, we will not allow parents to eat with students at lunch during the second quarter. Clinic - Our clinic will have a separate quarantine area for students showing Covid-19 symptoms. The space is connected to the clinic so students would have quick access to our nurses. Please make sure you read the attached flyer about pre-screening the students before coming to school.
