News from the Parent Mentor Centerville & Oakwood City Schools
Hello!
I have quite of few things for you to review. There are lots of great fall family activities going on around town. Feel free to contact me if you are looking for suggestions on farm activities. I have a long list of places hosting events this fall. If you know anyone hosting a sensory friendly fall event, please let me know. I'd love to share with everyone.
I do hope to resume our Parent Meetings in October and would be willing to have it be hybrid or virtual. Let me know if there is a topic you are particularly interested in me having. I'm thinking about something on helping develop executive function skills or transition to adulthood. Any other ideas?
Let me know if there is something I can do to support you and your family during these difficult days. If I don't know the answer, I can find someone who does.

Can you relate?
The problem of asking your teacher to repeat themselves and risk the reprimand for "not paying attention" or asking a friend and risking them getting in trouble for talking.
Executive Functions are important skills that help people function in day to day life. Most people take them for granted except if you have ADHD.
The scenario: The teacher tells you to turn to page 252. Someone with ADHD and Executive function issues may struggle to hold those two different pieces of information in their mind at the same time. The name of the book and the page number. By the time they get the book they have forgotten the number and everyone else is already on that page and ready to learn. If you ask the teacher to repeat you may get in trouble for not paying attention, but in fact, you were paying attention. Your brain could not hold those two pieces of information. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT but unfortunately, not everyone can understand this because executive function issues and ADHD are invisible issues. If you ask a friend then you may get them in trouble AND hurting your social relationships further.
If you are a teacher, parent or someone who has ADHD join The ADHD Mama for the upcoming course about Executive Functions. We will cover how executive functions work and what you can do to help.
October 7th @ 7pm Eastern Time. Cost: $25
