Dear PVN families,
As we work through these difficult times, it is so important for us to remember that our children are watching and following our lead. If we are as positive as possible about the upcoming school year they will be positive and excited also. School may not look exactly as it has in the past but it will still be a wonderful place to learn and work with friends!
As parents narrow down their decision for in-person or fully online learning for this school year we know a lot of questions have arisen. The district has provided numerous resources to help you make the best decision possible for your family. Please see links below:
Centerville Back to School FAQ's
We certainly recognize that our Primary Villages may have additional needs and priorities based on the developmental level of our students. Our hope is to personalize the district message so that you are certain to have a clear idea of what to expect both in-person (option 1) or fully online (option 2) at PVN.
Please understand this situation is extremely fluid and changes day to day. We will provide updates and information as quickly as possible as the school year approaches.
Based on parents questions, we thought it might be helpful to paint a picture of your child's day at school in both an in-person and remote model.
In-Person:
Your child will be assigned (by last name alphabetically) to group A or group B for face to face learning. You will know early next week which 50/50 model was chosen to begin to build your family's schedule. When children are physically in our school building social distancing and health and safety will be a primary consideration. It is also important to us that the children have normal peer interactions and learning experiences. We have been working to develop a classroom design that allows for literacy and math experiences that will create a collaborative classroom community. We will have a class meeting area where children can gather and discuss books, writing strategies and mathematical problem-solving (socially distanced, of course!). Children will also have a work place to tinker, explore and complete independent practice. Small group instruction will also take place during the school day. Children will have assigned spaces in each of these parts of our classroom in case contact tracing is needed. We know wearing masks will be required and is difficult for young children. We understand they are little and we will all do our best! Our school day will have needed outdoor breaks whether that be for recess or outdoor learning where children can socially distance without masks.
At the close of each day, teachers will discuss the next day's agenda. On days when children will be learning remotely, teachers can outline the plan and materials needed. Children will bring necessary supplies and technology home to complete their work. We are still in the process of designing the best remote learning plan for your children. We know young children cannot possibly be expected to zoom all day. Most likely they will zoom into their class's opening meeting, daily agenda and the first mini lesson. Next, they will most likely check into their google classroom for independent work activities and electronic resources (RAZ kids, EPIC, Bridges...our new math program!). Children may or may not zoom back in for subsequent lessons in a day. We will also work hard to make the learning at school connect and build upon the learning on remote days.
100% Online Learning
Please know our hope is that most children will choose the in-person model, but we certainly understand that health and family issues may not make this possible for all families. After careful research and collaboration with neighboring school districts, Centerville has chosen Schools PLP (link: https://schoolsplp.com/) as the online tool for delivering curriculum. If you choose this option, the district will assign your child to their appropriate grade and a teacher will be assigned to oversee your child's online experience. This teacher may or may not be a PVN teacher but will be employed by Centerville Schools to provide guidance, problem-solve and to answer any questions you may have. Remember, at this time you are commiting to the first semester online. Come January, if in-person learing becomes an option for your family, we will be ready to welcome you back to PVN! Please know that if you choose online learning we are still here to support you!
We are continuing to reflect on what services and daily learning consists of for our students on Individual Education Plans. Please know we are committed to devising the best plan for ALL of our young learners.
Hopefully this information will be helpful as you make this important decision for your family. We will be sending letters at the beginning of August with information about your child's teacher, New Parent Orientation and Open House.
We are continuously building our FAQ's and they will be constantly updated with new information. But, if you have any questions that have not been addressed, please feel free to contact me at mindy.cline@centerville.k12.oh.us or at 937.438.6062 (please leave a voicemail if I am not available to take your call). For district information or questions, you may also contact our Public Relations Director at sarah.swan@centerville.k12.oh.us.
Thank you for your support and understanding!
