News for Dec. 15, 2019 Pictured Above: Mrs. Mahaffey's little artists created beautiful snowmen in art class. Maybe they will bring us some SNOW!
Dear PVN Parents,
I hope you are enjoying the season and the JOY your children are feeling. As a parent of older children, don't take the pitter patter of little feet running down the stairs to open presents for granted. They'll be bigger, less enthusiastic feet before you know it! Keep in mind, you can sleep in January!
Integrated Arts are an important part of your child's school experience. We work hard to share pictures and information about what your child(ren) is doing in art, library, music and gym too! Mrs. Decuir shared the following about your child's time in Library:
Happy Holidays!! I wanted to share some fun things that have been going on in the Library!!
This past month with our Kindergarten classes we read Harold Loves his Wooley Hat, a wonderful story about a bear named Harold who figures out being different and being special does not come from wearing a hat but from being kind and helpful to others. We also read The Retired Kid, a story about a young boy who decides to retire from his "kid" life and travel to Florida to a retirement center. The boy quickly learns being a kid is not so bad after all! This week we started with a book titled Harold and the Purple Crayon. This is a book about an exciting adventure Harold chooses to go on with his purple crayon. The students then shared with me what they would do with the purple crayon if they had one!!
First Grade classes were part of a few lessons on the Chromebooks with Destiny Discover. This allows the students to type in a book title or a subject and all books will appear on that subject. The next goal is for the kids to be able to locate their books all on their own. We have had a great start and the students love to try it! We have also read The Bad Mood and the Stick, a funny story about the BAD mood that keeps traveling from person to person. We learn that we all face a bad mood every now and then but it doesn't stay with us! We also read The Curious Garden about a young boy who transforms an entire city from a dreary place to a beautiful, colorful place.
Have a safe and joyful Holiday Break!! Sincerely, Mrs Decuir

From Our PTO
It is hard to believe that the first half of the school year is winding down. Thank you to everyone who has helped PTO through the first semester. We could not do everything we do without the help of all of our volunteers. We will wrap up 2019 with our winter parties this Thursday and Friday. Please watch for information about your child's party from your homeroom parents.
