SOCCER, BOYS: On THURSDAY, Boys Soccer Varsity and JVA host the #7 State-Ranked Beavercreek Beavers in a much-anticipated set of games at Alumni Stadium. The Varsity Beavers look to avenge last year's Elk road victory, that was the Beavers' 1st home loss since 2012. Both teams would like to ride the momentum of a big victory going into the tournament. JVA kicks-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7:15 p.m. It will also be "Black Out for Biederman Night". Our spiritwear crew will be selling "#1 Fan Black Out" t-shirts for $20/each, with all proceeds going to the Biederman family. The t-shirts will be sold before and during the game. Without a doubt, Centerville-Beavercreek is the biggest soccer match-up in the Greater Dayton Area, so come on out and support your Elks.
SWIM AND DIVE: Our Team Pre-Season Meeting will be held Monday, October 21 at 6:00pm in the CHS West Commons. This meeting is required for all new swimmers and divers. Returning members need to attend if they need to order new apparel. Click here for more information.
VOLLEYBALL, GIRLS: On Saturday the Girls Volleyball teams loaded a charter bus and made an almost 3 hour trip north to take on traditional state powerhouse Toledo St. Ursula Academy Arrows. The Varsity Girls were riding a 12 match winning streak but they took that record into the gym of the 4th ranked team in the state. The past couple weeks did not provide much of a tune up for the Elks and the start of the match looked like they were in over their head. The Arrows ran off the first 9 points of the first set. The Lady Elks never fully recovered from this onslaught. They did regroup and try to steal some momentum late. Junior Emma Miller had a big block and a couple of kills on Arrow over passes. The Elks trailed 16-5 at one point but never caved in and fought to the end of set before losing 25-18. The second set began to follow a similar script as the Elks found themselves down 3-0. They fought back and kept the set close led by hitting from Seniors Scottee Johnson and MIddle Hitter Dani Sargent. After keeping it close the Arrows pushed ahead quickly and the Elks were now looking at an 18-12 deficit. Johnson pulled the girls together in the huddle and again willed them back into the set, closing to 23-21. Again, however, the Arrows closed the set and won 25-21. With their backs against the wall, the Elks took their first lead of the day at 2-1. They kept the Arrows out of sync with aggressive serving and the front down defenders made it difficult for the Arrows to win points. Miller, Sargent, Johnson along with Senior Evelyn Deuser and Juniors Anna Hapner and Stephanie Hofmann forced the Arrows into hitting errors. Hapner and Hofmann led the offense from the outside with Johnson attacking on the right side. The Elks had stolen momentum and pushed a lead and held off a brief run from the Arrows. Leading 15-12 with clutch serving Senior Kayla Caviccioni up the Elks were primed to be in position to win. Unfortunately the Arrows had other ideas. The Arrows closed the set with a 13-6 run and closed the set at 25-21 and won the set 3-0. This was a great test for the Elks and the girls should be proud of not giving an inch despite being 3 hours from home. The Freshman team fell behind early in their first set but methodically worked their way back into the set an eventually had a come from behind win 27-25. They closed the match in straight sets with another come from behind win in set 2. JV started their match well and had a lead late into the first set before some untimely errors cost them and the Arrows came back to win the set. Unfortunately JV was unable to capture any of the momentum from the Freshman team as they dropped their match 2-0. All three teams are back in action at home on Tuesday against Fairmont. Before the Varsity match will be celebrating our 5 Seniors. Please come out and show your support for the Seniors!
SPEED SCHOOL: Centerville Speed School is back at it this weekend. We will meet from 4:00pm to 5:00pm Sunday at either the football field or back gym, weather permitting.
