NEWS & NOTIFICATIONS
PICTURE DAY: Picture Day is next Wednesday, August 21! You should have received an order form at home, but if not, extras are available on all unit counters. Bring your completed form on Picture Day to give to the photographer. You will receive your new student i.d. as well shortly after. Teachers and staff should have a photo taken and will also receive a new i.d. card.
MAKER LAB: The CHS Library is proud to announce that our new Maker Lab is up and running! Stop by the West end of the Library during both lunches to check it out – there are lots of things to create, make, and explore! Feel free to bring your lunch with you - the lab is open during both lunches every day unless it is reserved by a teacher for a class. Stay tuned throughout the year for special events, activities, and programs related to the maker lab as well.
CANDY DONATIONS: The Elk Pride Program is asking for donations of candy. This program takes place each Friday when there is a full, 5-day school week. All students are invited to grab one small piece of candy during their lunch period. Students who have received an Elk Pride Ticket (given by a teacher of staff member in recognition for hard work, a good deed, etc.) should place their ticket into a hopper. Each Elk Pride Friday, 20 names are drawn from the hopper and those students may choose a full-sized candy item. Please click here to sign up to donate a package of candy!
PARKING PASSES: Parking passes will be sold during 4th and 5th lunches until Sept 6th. After that date they will be sold only on Thursday mornings from 7:30-7:50. Students will not be permitted to park in the student lot without a pass.
ACTIVITY PASSES: Activity passes will also be sold during 4th & 5th lunches. Last day to purchase is Friday, Sept. 6th.
STUDENT COUNCIL: If you are a freshman who is interested in running for Student Council, please pick up a petition in the Central Unit Office. Petitions are due at the mandatory meeting for candidates on August 22 in the West Commons at 7:50 AM. Any questions? Please see Mr. Dalton in West 228.
CLUB ACTIVITIES & MEETINGS
ADVANCED COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB: This is a brand new club led by a professional coder, and is designed to prepare students for taking a certain exam in May to earn college credit for Computer Science. Meetings will be every Monday through Thursday after school in Central 240B. The first meeting is on Monday, August 26. Contact info@chsapcs.org for more info or questions.
ATHLETICS
LADY ELKS GOLF, BLACK: The Lady Elks Varsity Black Golf Team defeated Carroll 169-188 yesterday at Yankee Trace. Catherine Tollefson led the Elks with a 41. Abigail Haywood added a 42, Rachel Nissen 43, Leeann Harker 43, Sanjana Reddy 45, and Rachel Krause 46
CENTERVILLE SPEED SCHOOL: Centerville Speed School will be starting up again on August 25th. We will focus on speed, agility, plyometrics, and mobility to help athletes take their game to the next level. We will meet at the football field at 4:00pm every Sunday to get better. LADY ELKS GOLF, GOLD: The Lady Elks Varsity Gold Golf Team placed 1st out of 16 teams in the Beavercreek Invitational shooting a 307. Junior Meha Pandya won the tournament shooting a 1 under par 71. Freshman Morgan Rodgers placed 5th and made the All-Tournament Team. Jenna has placed 6th with a 79, Kate Dickerson 8th with an 80. Carley Jones added an 84 and Amelia Burger an 86.
GIRLS SOCCER: It's a BLACKOUT! Come out to cheer on your Elks tonight when Women's JVA and Varsity Soccer teams host the rival Knights from Alter. JVA starts at 5:30 and Varsity follows at 7:15. Wear your BLACK and cheer on the Elks in this exciting season opener! Don't miss this BOYS SOCCER: On SATURDAY, Varsity and JVA travel to Lakota West High School to take on the Firebirds for a set of afternoon games to open the regular season. JVA kicks off at 1:00 p.m., followed by Varsity at 3:00 p.m. Lakota West is a quality opponent who will be seeking payback for last year's dominant Elk victory. Lakota West High School is located at 8940 Union Centre Blvd, West Chester, OH 45069.
PERFORMING ARTS
FORTE SHOW: Come and join Forte and a cappella groups from Ohio and Michigan as they compete for a chance to go to Carnegie Hall and win $25,000. Forte is hosting the event and this will be a great chance to get an early glimpse at this years group! Click here for more information. Students get in free.
CHS THEATRE: Join C.H.S. Theatre at our 2019 Kickoff next Wednesday , August 21, after school on the Performing Arts Center Stage. This is a chance to find out more about being part of the cast or crew of this year's productions. The kickoff will include tours of theatre spaces, information about the many opportunities available, and details about auditioning for this year's shows or being a part of set building or costuming. Can't make it? See Mr. Hamen in E244 before school or stop by the PAC office to pick up handouts after the kickoff.

Centerville Choir and Forte alumni, Chris Jobe, recently appeared on the NBC tv show Songland. He was also featured on the front page of Billboard this summer.
Centerville Choir and Forte alumni, Natalie Spiroff, was a wild card finalist on American Idol last season. She also performed live on the Country Music Awards (CMA's).
Forte recorded and filmed a music video with Grammy Award-winning singer Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix. Link to the collaboration video:

Did you know: Our Symphonic Choir has received Superior ratings in the highest class every year for the past 9 years.
Did you know: Our Symphonic Choir was a consortium member on Eric Whitacre's (Grammy Winning Composer) composition, Goodnight Moon. This year our Symphonic Choir will join Eric Whitacre at Carnegie Hall in New York City in November.

ACT PRACTICE OPPORTUNITY: Make sure your son or daughter is ready for the ACT!! Centerville Boys Golf has partnered with Huntington Learning Center to offer a unique opportunity. We are offering a Practice ACT with an included review session. The PACT will be administered on October 12th. Sign up forms are located in the unit offices and are due by October 9th.
