MS Girls Volleyball Registration Now Underway

All incoming 7th and 8th grade girls at Magsig, Tower Heights, or Watts who wish to try out for one of our girls volleyball teams this fall need to visit https://forms.gle/AEf8ZzBJjpo3WZkD7 in order to place their name on the roster.

After sending the email, please visit our website (http://www.centervilleelkathletics.com) and click on the required forms tab to access the paperwork.  Any student-athlete wishing to try out for one of the teams must have on file in the training room at CHS a current, OHSAA physical exam form (6 pages), a 2019-2020 Code of Conduct form (4 pages), an EMA form (1 page), a Concussion Information Sheet (3 pages – parents keep the first two and turn in page 3 with the signatures), and a Lindsey’s Law form. All paperwork must be turned in at the Centerville HS Athletic Office so that it may be checked for all required signatures and dates. No paperwork is to be turned into the coaches and no person will be allowed to participate in any of the tryout sessions unless all four forms are on file and have been verified. We are asking for all forms to be in by Friday, July 5th if at all possible.

If you are interested in trying out for one of our teams, please understand it is a 5-6 day per week commitment. Each team will practice Monday-Saturday until the season begins and the games will be on some Mondays, all Tuesdays, all Thursdays and some Saturdays. The teams will practice on the nights they do not have a game.

Tryouts

Dates:                  August 1st, 2nd and 5th.

Where:   Centerville High School

Time:                    See Calendar for Times

How teams are picked is an art not always a science. In grade school their skill level varies from never playing to playing a couple years already. We try to look for athletes, potential and skill all at the same time. We like height and jumping ability for the front row and no limitations on the back row.

We like to place between 12-15 players on a team and also try to have the teams picked in 3 tryout sessions. If we need more time we will take the time. Tryouts are mandatory and once the season starts players need to make this their first priority outside of the classroom. Missing two non-excused events and they are asked to leave the team.

Summer Vacations – They are encouraged and should be taken prior to tryouts.

Summer Information - We use TeamSnap for all events so the easiest way to stay informed with up to date information request to be added to our calendar by sending an email to Coach Buck (vbcoach96@aol.com) with your daughters name and what year she will graduate HS. I will take that information and send you an invite to join the calendar. NOTE: Please check the calendar frequently from time to time it changes and I don’t want you showing up for a training session and we had to cancel. It doesn’t happen often.

Weight Training and Open Gyms - We invite all the girls that will be in the 7th-12th grade to be part of our summer weight training where indicated. Once in a while it will only be for high school players due to space or coaching coverage.

Coaching Days – We are allowed 10 days with high school girls and the grade school girls. They can be on different days.

Open Gyms – We can be at the open gym, however, the players decide what they do because no instruction from the coaching staff can take place.

Weight Training and Conditioning -

Weight training and conditioning sessions we can teach the proper technique during those sessions they do not count towards our ten coach days.

Summer Camps -

This year we are taking two teams to the University of Michigan team camp July 11-13th $350.00/player. On the same days of our Michigan team camp we will hold a volleyball camp for our HS players that don’t attend the Michigan Team. The cost for our three-day camp will be $95.00. You can register for our volleyball camps on our web page.

Other summer camps – who is running it and how they run it is very important. If it’s player driven verses coaches I have a little concern over those types of camps. It’s better than nothing, but not the best. College camps can be good; again it comes down to the coaching philosophy.

Paperwork needed for tryouts – Prior to tryouts a player needs to have their physical completed and the results turned in with all their other required paperwork before they can tryout. You can find all the paperwork required on the high school web page or our web page www.centervillevolleyball.com click on the parents information tab and you will find the five forms.

Lindsay’s Law Signature page, Pre-participation Physical Form, Emergency Medical Authorization, Concussion Form, Code of Conduct form.

Physical Form is good for 12 months so you may just need to take the form in to have the doctor’s office fill it out if you have had it in the past 12 months. However, if it expires in the middle of the season you still need to have a new one completed so we can have it on file.
