Szozda named Teacher of the Year

Centerville City Schools recognized Cline Elementary art teacher Matt Szozda as the 2019 Teacher of the Year during this month's Board of Education meeting.

Education Foundation awards teacher grants
The Centerville Education Foundation recently awarded 31 grants to teachers in Centerville City Schools. More than $14,000 will be used by these teachers for projects ranging from science, technology, engineering, arts and math to gardening and character education.

'Operation: Street Smart' postponed
Due to the extremely cold temperatures that are expected, we have postponed the "Operation: Street Smart" presentation that was scheduled to take place on Jan. 30. The event has been rescheduled for 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11 in the Cline Auditorium. We want as many parents and community members to be able to attend as possible!

'12 Angry Jurors' opens this weekend
Join Centerville High School Theatre for its production of "12 Angry Jurors" at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 31-Saturday, Feb. 2 in the Performing Arts Center. The understudy performance will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The play is based on the classic TV movie, "12 Angry Men."

Forte CD release concert is Feb. 8
Join Forte on Friday, Feb. 8 for their CD Release Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center with Centerville's Novae opening the show. There will be some great raffle/silent auction items available, such as a "Centerville Band Fan" basket, an athletic pass, CHS Theatre passes and much more! Ticket prices are $10 or $15 each and are now on sale online. Tickets also should be available the night of the concert. All seats are assigned. Don't miss this exciting night of a cappella music!

Superintendent shares State of the District
The Centerville High School PTO sponsored the third annual "State of the District" presentation last week. During the event, Superintendent Dr. Tom Henderson shared opportunities and challenges in our district, current progress in the schools, as well as some thoughts for the future.

The Centerville Board of Education held its regular meeting on Jan. 28 at Centerville High School. A highlight of the meeting was the recognition of several teachers from across the district, including the Teacher of the Year and Centerville Education Foundation grant recipients.
