Noon Optimist Youth Appreciation Awards

Centerville Noon Optimist recently recognized three Centerville High School students with the Youth Appreciation Award. Seniors Maddie Round, Emily Whitehead and Rachel Whitehead were honored for their leadership, service and involvement in high school and community activities.

Board of Education holds November meeting
The Centerville Board of Education held its regular meeting on Nov. 26 at Centerville High School. A highlight of the meeting was the recognition of 13 members of the district's Transportation staff who participated in the School Bus Driver Safety Road-E-O. CHS Principal John Carroll recognized junior Ali FitzHarris for designing a flyer to remind students how to access the Safety Helpline.

Alternative Strings to perform Friday
The Alternative Strings will perform a mix of jazz, Celtic, bluegrass and holiday tunes on the main campus of the Miami Valley Hospital from 7-8 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 30 inside the main entrance next to the gift shop. Every holiday season, this group gives back to our community by sharing music with others throughout the Miami Valley. Admission is free and open to the public!

 

Centerville Dance Program performance
The Centerville Dance Program will present its first semester dance concert, "With Courage and Spirit," at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3 in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, and the concert will include performances by the Coed Varsity Dance Team, Centerville Dance Company, Level 1 and 3 dance classes. This evening of dance will be sure to empower others to be more courageous!

CHS students aim for jobs, internships in manufacturing industry
Fourteen Centerville High School seniors stood at individual tables last week with a mix of nerves and confidence as they waited to talk with representatives from the manufacturing industry. Prepared with resumes and portfolios, the students were participating in a "reverse" job fair as they look toward continuing their education outside the classroom.

Watts students work on 'mindfulness'
Just after the bell rings on Monday mornings at Watts Middle School, the voice of school psychologist Dr. Christy Sorrell can be heard in classrooms around the building as she shares lessons about mindfulness. But what does that mean and how could it have an impact on hundreds of sixth, seventh and eighth graders?

Dottie Yeck Good Life Award winners
Six Centerville students received awards in the Washington-Centerville Public Library Dottie Yeck Good Life Award Writing Contest from nearly 1,000 essays submitted by middle and high school students from 26 area schools! Congratulations to the following students:

Christmas Movies in CHS Central Theatre - Dec. 9

This season, Sunday afternoons aren't just for watching football or catching up on homework. They're also for grabbing family or friends and heading to the CHS Central Theater for a Christmas movie double-feature! Join us on Sunday, Dec. 9 and snuggle up with your favorite blanket and a pillow. "Elf" will start at 1 p.m. and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" will start at 3 p.m. The cost is $5/person for one movie, $7/person for both movies, children under 10 are free. Baseball Holiday Raffle

The Centerville Baseball Program is selling Holiday Raffle tickets at $10 each with the goal of raising money for their spring trip. The winner will be selected Dec. 14 at halftime of the home Varsity Basketball Game and will receive a $5,000 prize. Questions: jason.whited@centerville.k12.oh.us
