Elks Back to School Update - July 16, 2020 Please read through the following information and use the links to provide feedback and let us know which option you are choosing for your children.
First, we appreciate our school community's understanding and flexibility as we work together through this difficult and constantly changing situation. There is no doubt that schools across the country are facing significant challenges when it comes to balancing educational needs with health and safety protocols.
During this week's work session with the Centerville Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Tom Henderson discussed ideas and plans for the start of the school year. Each of the board members asked questions and shared their viewpoints, and you can view that discussion here. The board then made the decision for the district to move forward with two proposed learning options.
These learning options were developed in conjunction with guidance and considerations from the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Health and Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County, in addition to reviewing surveys from students, parents and teachers, collaborating with area school districts, and gathering input from building principals and teacher advisory teams. Our plan is rooted in the following principles:
Based on the discussion at the work session, we are delaying the start of school in order to provide our staff members with additional professional development as well as training in health and safety protocols. All staff members will report on Monday, Aug. 17. The first day for students in grades K-12 will be Monday, Aug. 24 (original date was Wednesday, Aug. 19). The first day for preschool students will be Wednesday, Aug. 26. Click here to download an updated 2020-21 calendar.
We are also moving forward with plans to start the year with the following learning options for families. Keep in mind that all plans are fluid and could change rapidly based on the spread of virus in our community.
We are asking ALL families to let us know which option they are choosing for each of their children by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 24.
To select a learning option, parents/guardians must visit https://student.centerville.k12.oh.us/return/ and log in using your Home Access Center credentials. You will then be able to select the in-person or 100% online option for each of your children.
If you have not completed the registration process on the Home Access Center (HAC), you will need to do that first. Click here to start the registration process. Please use the parent/guardian information that was used at enrollment when completing the HAC registration process.
We know you have many questions. We are still working on a number of details, and we will continue to share decisions as they are made. We created an Elks Back to School webpage, www.centerville.k12.oh.us/back-to-school-2020, which includes a list of frequently asked questions that will be updated as more information becomes available.
Once again, we are thankful for your patience and understanding as we plan for a new school year during these unprecedented times. OPTION 1
In-Person -- All Day, Everyday
Students will return to school with adjustments to maintain a safe and healthy environment as best we can. Although we will have many safety protocols in place, any student who attends school will incur some level of risk. Keep in mind that within this option, learning could move between all-day, everyday instruction to blended instruction to fully remote, based on evolving pandemic conditions and guidance from the state or public health authorities.
Parents/guardians must register their student for this option by 11:59 p.m. on July 24, 2020.
OPTION 2
100% Online Learning
Centerville City Schools will be offering a 100% online learning option for students who are unable or uncomfortable returning to school buildings. This will be a semester long decision (August-December).
Parents/guardians must register their student for this option by 11:59 p.m. on July 24, 2020.
