Throughout the year, we'll be introducing some of the great teachers, administrators, staff members, students and volunteers in our district. Today, let's get to know ... ERICA SCHRODER, Fifth Grade Teacher at Weller Elementary!

Tell us about your job.
I get the privilege of teaching fifth grade at Weller Elementary School, all subjects. I am currently in my sixth year of teaching in Centerville.

What are some of your goals this year?
I want to make the best learning experience possible for each child in my classroom. I want to get to know all of my students, celebrate their strengths, and help them grow to see their potential. I want my students to feel confident, challenged, and prepared as they head to middle school next year.

Tell us about your family.
My loving husband, Fritz, and I have been married for a little over two years. In addition to my husband, I also have a very supportive, extended family. Together we all work on projects and ideas for the classroom. I have a younger brother who is in graduate school in Iowa. My dad is skilled in carpentry and has built many unit props and bookshelves for my classroom library. My mom provides a listening ear and wise advice for challenging situations.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Germantown and attended Valley View Schools.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I love to travel and go on adventures! I enjoy seeing new places, learning about different cultures, and exploring the world around us. When I was in college I had the opportunity to study in different European school systems in Austria and Luxembourg. Everything about my pedagogy was challenged with this experience and it helped form me into the teacher that I am today.

What is your favorite book, movie, TV show or hobby?
My favorite movies include most Disney movies both new and old. My favorite authors are Jane Austen and Bob Goff. Last summer, I traveled to see the home where Jane Austen was living when she wrote some of her most famous works in Chawton, United Kingdom. I am also a huge children's book collector. I have way too many and can't choose a favorite! I love photography and playing board games.

What do you think you'd be doing if you weren't in education?
I have never seen myself in any field except education. My ultimate goal in education is to teach at the collegiate level, working with preservice educators.

What is the best part about working for Centerville Schools?
I love working for Centerville Schools! The parental support and true community feel have been monumental in my teaching career. I truly believe that by working together we have the opportunity to have a major impact on students' lives now and in their future.
