WELLER’S “READ & EAT” A HUGE SUCCESS

Weller students and their parents shared a unique opportunity – reading together at school! The brainchild of Weller’s Literacy Support Teacher Kelly Gartz, parents were invited to bring a lunch to school, eat in their child’s classroom, and share a book and a game that guided their literacy discussion about the book. Here 3rd grader Mark Balonier is enthralled with the book his mom Dawn is reading. The turnout of parents was impressive and a wonderful testament to the support our students have at home. WELLER STUDENTS LEARN FROM CENTER OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY (COSI) TRAVELING PROGRAM

“The Incredible Human Machine,” a COSI on wheels project that visited Weller Elementary, is designed to enhance the ability of students to make decisions that will improve their long term well-being. The program consisted of a 45 minute interactive assembly followed by hands-on activities that engaged the students and encouraged the development of Science Process Skills. Students learned about the digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems, plus how nutrients and exercise keeps a body healthy. Read More
