The K-1 school’s 4th quarter focus is spreading peace into the community. After gathering ideas from the students the decision was made to help the students of Henryville, Indiana by donating books to their new Henryville Elementary School library. PVS is supporting the students of Henryville, Indiana whose school was severely damaged by a recent tornado. The book collection, from April 16th through May 4th, also has the support of Barnes and Noble who is partnering with PVS by conducting their own book drive at their Dayton Mall store from April 15th to May 5th. Students have the opportunity to bring in a new book, preferably hard back, suitable for a Kindergarten through 5th grade reader. The school will also accept cash/checks to donate towards the Henryville wish list. To participate in this way, please write a check to PVS PTO with “books” written in the memo line. A year ago the PVS staff began discussing developing an initiative that would promote respect and character development among more than 650 students, the larger of the school district’s two primary villages. Ostberg continues “everyone knew there were a lot of wonderful things happening in different classrooms, but the discussion seemed to always come back to a desire to create a school-wide program that would unite students and staff.” The result will be on display on Monday, February 27, at 9:45 and again at 1:45 in the “café,” perhaps better known as a cafeteria, which sits at the front of the school. This third quarter “Peace Rally” focuses on “Peace in Our School,” and will be followed during the fourth quarter with “Peace in Our Community.” Previous rallies this school year were “Peace in Our Classrooms” and “Peace in Our Homes.” Each quarter’s focus includes a school-wide activity with a peace rally at the end to celebrate the work the kindergarten and first grade students have completed towards that quarter’s goal.
