 Centerville Preschool awarded five-star rating

Centerville Preschool, which offers programs at both Primary Village North and Primary Village South, recently was awarded the highest rating in Ohio’s “Step Up to Quality” accreditation process.

Centerville Preschool offers an integrated preschool program that serves more than 200 children from ages 3-5, both those with special needs and peer models. The program is designed to develop social skills as well as kindergarten readiness.

“We work hard to have a child-centered program that takes the children’s natural curiosity and develops learning projects based on their interests,” said Preschool Principal Andrea Contestable. “We want their experiences to be meaningful and relevant, and it’s amazing to observe children and teachers investigating a topic and learning something new together.”

Step Up to Quality is a five-star quality rating system administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Education that recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality benchmarks over and above minimum health and safety licensing standards. The entire Centerville Preschool staff underwent a rigorous evaluation process during the 2016-17 school year before finding out they received a five-star rating in June.

According to Contestable, this is the first time Centerville Preschool has been evaluated by Step Up to Quality. She said the preschool staff deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond in areas like professional development, parent communication and outreach, and meeting the unique needs of a very diverse group of children.

“Our staff really does put in the extra time,” she said. “They are just excited to be here and to share that joy with the children.”

Centerville City Schools serve more than 8,100 students in Centerville and Washington Township in southwest Ohio, offering a variety of educational programs to a diverse student population. The district operates 13 school buildings, as well as two preschools and a bus facility accommodating and servicing more than 100 buses. Visit www.centerville.k12.oh.us for more information.
