Throughout the year, we’ll be introducing some of the great teachers, administrators, staff members, students and volunteers in our district. Today, let’s get to know … RAY OAKES, Clinical Counselor!
Tell us about your job.
My job as clinical counselor is itinerant, working with students from throughout the district. When working with kids, I talk about being their “brain coach,” helping them understand their feelings, thoughts and choices and how they can make better choices. I work with students manifesting trouble managing their emotions and choices. I work with them individually, sometimes do class educational groups to support teachers working with one or some of our more challenged students. I consult with teachers and parents to support the changes and acquisition of skills we seek to nurture. I’ve worked with the district for 22 years.
What are some of your goals this year?
My goal is to nurture and educate teachers, parents and students about the marvelous complexity of humanity and how we can “build better brains.”
Tell us about your family.
My family includes my wife, two children and three grandchildren.
Where did you grow up?
I was raised in New York and have been a resident of the Dayton area for 40 years.
Tell us about your hobbies?
My passions are my family and friends, tandem bike riding to support a cure for Type 1 diabetes, golf, landscaping and home remodeling.
What is the best part about working for Centerville Schools?
The best part of the Centerville City Schools experience is the open, energetic and creative minds and spirits I have the honor to work with every day in the students, teachers, staff and administrators.
