BOARD RELEASES RESULTS OF SURVEY; WILL PLACE 5.9 MILL OPERATNG LEVY ON THE NOVEMBER 6 BALLOT

After careful consideration and discussion, including the results of a March 5 – 7 community telephone survey of 303 randomly selected residents, the Board of Education has decided to place a 5.9 mill operating levy on the November 6 ballot. “Considering the unprecedented loss of state revenue in fiscal year 2012 the more than $10 million cuts in district expenditures since 2009 have not been enough to prevent us from using some of our annual carry-over balance to fund district operations. Board members know this is not sustainable and have decided to give our community on November 6 the opportunity to decide the future shape of our schools,” commented Superintendent Dr. Tom Henderson.

The Board of Education has also released the results of the 29-question survey conducted by Fallon Research & Communications, Inc. Paul Fallon reported to the Board the survey has a +/- 5.62% overall estimated margin of error. According to Fallon, the data is weighted so the results reflect each vital political, demographic and geographic characteristic in proportion to its actual percentage of the composition of the community’s electorate.

Everyone connected with the Centerville Schools were pleased to learn the District’s Student Nutrition Services had received the 2009 Stellar Award for Best Nutrition Practices from the Ohio Department of Education. The word that Centerville, along with 18 other Ohio schools and school districts, had been selected to receive the award that was established in 2003 to recognize schools that use best practices to promote a healthy school nutrition environment made for exciting news. “And especially for me, commented Stephanie Zinger, recently hired to be the District’s Student Nutrition Services Director. “I knew I had big shoes to fill when I was hired to replace Ginny Brechak who had spent the last 18 years of her student food service career serving as Centerville’s supervisor.” Read More
