Watts Jazz Band, Jazz Combo and Girl's Ensemble brought holiday cheer to the students of PVS and PVN and to the residents and community of Bethany Village on Tuesday, December 13. Students performed several holiday pieces as well as some quality jazz literature such as Moanin and Funky Cha Cha made famous by Arturo Sandoval on his album Hot House. The Girl's Ensemble and Jazz Combo combined to perform a special arrangement of America The Beautiful which also features a spoken section of the Pledge of Allegience while a beautiful clarinet solo of America is being played in the background by Sophia Angelopulus. Another feature was the 8th grade brass quintet performing Carol of the Bells. Congratulations to students on three wonderful performances! Read More

Read More Watts Spring Band Concert features UD NHBMonday, May 23, 2011CONGRATULATIONS to all Watts band students on an outstanding spring concert! All groups played with great tone quality, balance, precision, and expression which is what we've been working toward. Special highlights of our spring concert included the 6th graders performing a traditional band arrangement of "The Tempest" and the unique sound of horns, trombone slides and honking cars in "Traffic Jam". The 7th and 8th graders featured two songs of their own while also combining with the University of Dayton's New Horizon's Band (NHB) to perform Twilight and Take Off! It was a wonderful sound and a great experience playing with musicians ranging in age from 11 - 80 something! Students thoroughly enjoyed playing with and meeting the senior members of this group. We also enjoyed listening to the NHB band play an irish tune performed with the Tip Tap Toppers, a clogging group. Ending this wonderful evening were the Watts Jazz Combo featuring Ernie Schelling on trumpet who is a member of the NH Jazz Band and the many soloists in the Watts Jazz Band. This year's "Music For A Lifetime" concert will be a fond memory for all who participated! At this festival each group played a couple songs for our guest clinician Shelley Jagow from from Wright State University. Mrs. Jagow critiqued our performance verbally on a tape so that we could hear what musical skills we needed to work on to prepare our music for the upcoming spring concerts. Then all three middle schools combined to play a piece together, Critical Mass. Mrs. Jagow worked on it with all the students then students performed the piece for their parents. Critical Mass will be showcased at each middle school spring concert. This was a great learning experience for all! Read More Instrumental Music Class Present Final ProjectsMonday, February 14, 20118th Grade Band Students have been learning how to use smart music a music recording program along with Finale which is a music writing program. With grant money, we have received midi keyboards to help us with writing music. Students just completed their compositions in which they performed from reading their final computer written copy of music. Now to conclude this class students were given a choice to either write a longer composition with two differing sections or perform chamber music and make a perfected recording of their music with the smart music program. We invited you to listen to the two Chamber Group pieces under the recording section of this website. Curtis Mage and Timmy Seiler played a bassoon duet titled Sonata II and Jadon Bischoff, Cassie Rogers, and Ben Brenner played a saxophone trio titled Waltz. Hope you enjoy listening to their accomplishments they made in just a week!
