True Beauty

Monday, April 11, 2011

In Room 20 we've been exploring what is truly beautiful.  We've discovered the word beauty is loaded with many connotations. Click the image to watch a video that reaches out to parents. (THIS VIDEO CONTAINS IMAGES THAT MAY NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.) This campaign is geared toward girls, but I firmly believe all children are susceptible to society's assumptions about what beauty is. Congratulations to everyone in Room 20 who brought in 100 minute tickets this week. Because of you our class was in 2nd place in the WHOLE school for reading! Room 20 kids, you rock! Hats, and gloves, and mittens...oh my!

Friday, December 3, 2010

As the temperatures drop, please make sure your child has a winter coat, gloves, and even a scarf or hat. Also, please take a few minutes at home and have your child practice zipping his coat by himself, and remind him that it's a good idea to do this before putting gloves on. Please put your child's name somewhere on both gloves/mittens, or mark them distinctly in some way. It would also be helpful if you showed your child how to put these things away so they don't get lost (it's often helpful to roll up gloves together and put them in a coat pocket). Already we have some orphan winterwear in our room : ) Strategic thinking will go a long way to make recess and packing up less crazy times! Read More

Beat Michigan Week

Thursday, November 18, 2010

The Michigan fans in our class are dismayed that Beat Michigan Week is upon us! In our class we'll spend a few days before Thanksgiving talking about the value of teamwork and cooperation, as well as the fun people have cheering for their favorite teams. I'm hoping we can top off our fun and festivities with a big win against the Wolverines next weekend :) Read More
