Students at PVS held a peace pep rally earlier in the year, and after decorating their Paragon Road school in mid-November with peace branches honoring the traditions and cultures of their students and families, held another Peace Pep Rally in early December. This quarter’s focus is on peace in our homes. The year long project will conclude with community service projects in the spring. Primary Village South teacher Suzanne Mitolo is the 2011 recipient of the “Ohio Art Educator of the Year” Award given by the Ohio Art Education Association. The award is a lifetime achievement award presented to art educators who have demonstrated their dedication and commitment to OAEA and art education over an extended period of time. Suzanne began teaching in Centerville in 2001 after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Wright State and her Master’s from the University of Dayton. Congratulations Suzanne! Read More

PVS Naturalist Enrichment teacher Laura Peterson wanted her first grade students to appreciate the many small creatures living alongside them so she visited the woods just behind their school on Paragon Road. Armed with magnifying glasses the first grade scientists walked along the paths and ventured out into the less traveled areas of their woods to find small creatures and the places they live. Mark your calendars for Monday, August 22nd to meet your child's teacher, see the classroom, tour the building, play on the playground and practice getting on and off a school bus.  Within the next week, you will receive your letter from us with the name of your child's teacher and the exact times for "Meet the Teacher".  If your child will be in the first grade, keep Monday afternoon open to meet your child's teacher.  If your child will be in preschool or kindergarten, you may come in the afternoon or the evening. Primary Village South students welcomed John "Spirit of Thunder" DeBoer on Monday, November 8.  Mr. DeBoer entertained everyone with his wonderful Native American Indian storytelling as well as playing his different kinds of Native American flutes.  His music is inspired by the sights and sounds in nature.  He uses his music as a tool to teach students about the importance of nature in their lives.  Mr. DeBoer is the leader of the flute circle as Sunwatch Indian Village and has released three CD's of flute music. Kindergarten parents--Welcome to the world of books!!  Your kindergartner has been visiting the library once a week.  We have been busy learning how to care for our books, the libraries different sections, parts of a book and most improtantly--THE BOOKEY LOOKEY!!!  (Ask your kindergartner to sing it to you).  Visiting the library once a week gives your child the continued love of reading and books.  They also have the opportunity to visit everyday but Friday for open circulation.  We hope you continue to support our love of reading at PVS and with your child. The pink neighborhood presented the musical "A Season of Wonder" at the Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, December 15.  They also performed before fellow classmates at PVS and here are just a few of the pictures. Read More

The 1st graders at PVS have been studying Native Americans in their Integrated Arts classes (Art, Gym, Music and IMC). Students have been making clay pots, painting animal skins, singing Native American songs, playing Native American games and studying different tribes. The students were introduced to a local man, John DeBoer who is a professional Native American flute player. John visited the 1st graders on November 17. John spearheaded the Flute Circle at Sunwatch Village, has recorded three CDs, and has performed songs and storytelling for twenty years. He performed his music with his many different flutes, while telling the students the Native American legends that go along with each song. Read More
