Students at PVS held a peace pep rally earlier in the year, and after decorating their Paragon Road school in mid-November with peace branches honoring the traditions and cultures of their students and families, held another Peace Pep Rally in early December. This quarter’s focus is on peace in our homes. The year long project will conclude with community service projects in the spring. The award is a lifetime achievement award presented to art educators who have demonstrated their dedication and commitment to OAEA and art education over an extended period of time. Suzanne began teaching in Centerville in 2001 after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Wright State and her Master’s from the University of Dayton. Congratulations Suzanne! Armed with magnifying glasses the first grade scientists walked along the paths and ventured out into the less traveled areas of their woods to find small creatures and the places they live. Mr. DeBoer entertained everyone with his wonderful Native American Indian storytelling as well as playing his different kinds of Native American flutes. His music is inspired by the sights and sounds in nature. He uses his music as a tool to teach students about the importance of nature in their lives. Mr. DeBoer is the leader of the flute circle as Sunwatch Indian Village and has released three CD's of flute music. They also performed before fellow classmates at PVS and here are just a few of the pictures. Read More 1st Graders study Native American with Integrated ArtsWednesday, November 18, 2009The 1st graders at PVS have been studying Native Americans in their Integrated Arts classes (Art, Gym, Music and IMC). Students have been making clay pots, painting animal skins, singing Native American songs, playing Native American games and studying different tribes. The students were introduced to a local man, John DeBoer who is a professional Native American flute player. John visited the 1st graders on November 17. John spearheaded the Flute Circle at Sunwatch Village, has recorded three CDs, and has performed songs and storytelling for twenty years. He performed his music with his many different flutes, while telling the students the Native American legends that go along with each song. Read More |
