CENTERVILLE MAYOR MARK KINGSEED INSPIRES NORMANDY 3RD GRADERS

Normandy’s 3rd graders had many questions for Centerville Mayor Mark Kingseed when he spoke to them as part of their Government Unit and Citizenship Project, an effort during this 2014-15 school year to “help make Normandy a better and safer place,” according to 3rd grade teacher Rebecca Probasco. 3rd Grade Citizenship Projects

To promote activism, the 3rd grade teachers allowed each classroom to choose a real life problem and come up with a way to respond. Each classroom developed an "action group" and presented their ideas at a 3rd grade assembly, as shown in the attached photo. The five citizenship projects are Food Savers (to reduce lunchroom waste) Normandy Gardeners (to care for butterfly garden), Homework Cops (to improve responsibility) Rad Recycling and the Green Team (to reduce litter at school and Grant Park). Normandy Honors Veterans

Normandy Honors Veterans

Normandy students and staff honored our Veterans on November 11, 2014. Student Council officers lead the entire school in the Pledge of Alliegence. They also announced that many cards were presented Veterans who are travelling to Washington D.C.as part of the Honor Flight program. Additionally, over 400 decorated cards were given to the Blue Star Mothers organization. These heartfelt letters will be added to care packages that will be sent to service members who are currently serving overseas. Read More

ART TEACHER ALICE TAVANI SELECTED AN OAEA “FELLOW”

Normandy’s Alice Tavani has been selected an OAEA (Ohio Art Education Association) “Fellow,” an honor bestowed upon less than 2% of the OAEA membership, reflective of her years of service in the development and enhancement of art education. As a 1st Vice President of OAEA Alice will work with the Ohio Department of Education’s fine art consultant to integrate Best Practices in visual art education in schools around our region. Yes, the Lochness Monster has been sighted on the Normandy school grounds.  Some of our 4th and 5th Graders participated in an afterschool art experience with instructor Mrs. Tavani.  They carved pumpkins and formed them into lawn sculptures.  Students and parents alike  have enjoyed the art! Normandy Teachers Awarded MacGrants

Ms.  Tavani, Art Teacher and Mrs. Brunner, Reading Support Teacher are the proud recipients of a MacGrant.  Ms. Tavani is going to use her funds to provide Normandy  students with a printmaking experience and Mrs. Brunner is  supporting  students in the area of word study through the use of games.  A huge thanks to our teachers for taking the time to apply for a MacGrant in order to better serve our students! Deputy Gary  Fulwiler, our school resource office, visited 2nd graders in October. He talked about safety tips and allowed students to ask questions about his job. NORMANDY GIRL SCOUTS IMPACTING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Members of Normandy’s Girl Scout Troop 30853 made bracelets as a way to work on a bronze badge, and are seen here selling them during their lunch time. For each bracelet sold, another one will be donated to a woman suffering from domestic violence and a new stuffed animal will be given to a child letting them know there are people who care about them.
