WELLER ELEMENTARY FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS ARE "CHARGED" WITH BRIGHT IDEAS IN ENERGY These Weller Elementary fifth-grade students are learning the properties of light energy through hands-on exploration. These fifth graders are learning about the conservation of thermal energy by constructing the most energy efficient cardboard house, using a variety of insulation materials. The houses are tested by placing them on a stand that features a light bulb as the “furnace”. A score is given to the house by calculating the difference between the internal temperature of the house and the outdoor temperature at the time of testing. The winning house from each school competes for the district winner!
OUTDOOR LEARNING These outdoor learners are students in Mrs. Swain's second grade class at Normandy Elementary School. These students are participants in the garden project that began last school year. In these pictures, the students are members of the "Nature Committee" and are teaching other students from their class about what they have learned from working in the garden. |
