Describing the young scholars as “uncommon,” Bryan commented that last October the District had 150 7th and 8th graders who took the PSAT along with some 60,000 other students from around the nation, including 1,500 in Ohio. What is uncommon “is that 13 of our students scored in the top 98th percentile when compared to the group of students 8th grade and below.” According to Bryan, the PSAT is used as the National Merit Qualifying test for 11th graders competing for college scholarships. Each of the 13 middle school students had a combined score of 170 or above on three subtests, Writing, Math and Reading, with a maximum of 80 points on any one test. Congratulations to these very bright and successful young people.
